I have a darling little apartment in a neighborhood called Passy. It is located in the sixteenth arrondissement, nestled between the Eiffel Tower and the Bois de Boulogne.
I love this neighborhood and have come to know it well. This is the Paris of Parisians, complete with a bustling marketplace, ivy-hung courtyards and narrow streets named after artists, writers, and musicians. Passy’s most famous residents include Benjamin Franklin, Berthe Morisot, Edouard Manet, Claude Debussy, and Honoré de Balzac.
The Jardin du Ranelagh is immediately west of my building. This is one of the most child-friendly parks I’ve ever seen, featuring swings, slides, climbing structures, and an old-fashioned merry-go-round where children collect brass rings on the end of a baton. There is even a marionette theater with twice daily performances on Saturday and Sunday. The entrance to the park is adorned with a statue of Jean de la Fontaine, who is famous for his children’s fables.
Passy has everything to offer: dining, shopping, and museums. Some of my favorite spots include: La Gare for a chic dining experience, La Rotonde de la Muette for its beautiful terrace, and Le Bistrot des Vignes for hearty classic French cuisine. Franck et Fils has just about everything a woman could want, while Tartine et Chocolat has, by far, the most adorable collection of children’s clothes. Le Musée Marmotton is well known for its collection of Monet paintings as well as other impressionist artists.
As they say in Paris, j’aime mon quartier.
