Can you believe it? 2009 marks the 120th birthday of the iconic Eiffel Tower!
Built as the showstopper for the 1889 International Exposition, this iron masterpiece held the title of the world’s tallest structure until 1930—and it still takes our breath away every time.
Right now through August 31, Paris is honoring its brilliant creator with the must-see exhibition “Gustave Eiffel, Iron Magician” at the stunning Hôtel de Ville. If you’re in the city, don’t miss this beautiful tribute to the genius behind the Tower!
On a personal note… July 2009 also happens to be my own 20-year love affair with Paris anniversary! Back in 1989, I made my very first trip here just in time for the Tower’s 100th birthday bash—fireworks exploding across the sky, lights dancing, pure magic.
That unforgettable night sealed it: I’ve been head-over-heels in love with Paris ever since.
Vive la Tour Eiffel—and vive Paris!
